Trento in spring: when the city wakes up

Trento in spring what to do

Your guide to Trento in spring what to do from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.

Trento in spring is a city rediscovering itself. After the winter months — short but often grey — the historic centre comes alive again, café terraces fill up and the mountains around the city reveal the sharp contrast between the snow still high above and the fresh green of the valley floor.

From March onwards the days lengthen quickly. April and May are the best months to visit Trento if you want to avoid summer crowds without sacrificing good weather. Daytime temperatures are mild — between 15°C and 22°C — and rain, though frequent, usually falls at night or in brief afternoon showers.

Spring events

Spring is also the season of cultural events. The Trento Film Festival takes place in late April, the Economics Festival in late May or early June. Museum exhibitions are refreshed and Castello del Buonconsiglio reopens with full opening hours.

Markets and seasonal produce

The city’s markets return to full life. The daily Piazza del Duomo market offers early Trentino produce in spring: white asparagus, mountain chicory, wild herbs picked from meadows. The Saturday market in Via Belenzani features artisan products, vegetable plants and occasional antiques.

Cycling in the countryside

The vineyards around the city — on the Sopramonte hills, along the Adige valley — are covered in fresh green. A bicycle ride along the Ciclabile del Sole, from Trento up towards Lavis and Salorno, is one of the best ways to enjoy the spring landscape.

What to pack

Temperature swings between morning and evening can be significant. A light thermal layer for evenings, a waterproof jacket and wet-weather shoes are the minimum. Restaurant terraces often have heaters and blankets: eating outdoors is possible most days.
