MUSE museum Trento
Your guide to MUSE museum Trento from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.
The MUSE — Museo delle Scienze di Trento — is located in the Quartiere delle Albere district, a short walk from Hotel Accademia. Designed by Renzo Piano and opened in 2013, it has become one of Italy’s most visited science museums, equally captivating for six-year-olds and curious adults.
The museum spans seven floors covering topics from human evolution and climate change to Alpine biodiversity and astronomy. Each floor is conceived as a narrative journey: not a collection of objects to be observed in silence, but a system of interactive installations, films, scale models and hands-on workshops.
The basement level houses the prehistoric life and evolution section. At ground level, the glass atrium floods light onto the Tethyshadros insularis dinosaur, a truly exceptional specimen. Higher up you find the sections dedicated to the Alps — with particular attention to Trentino — and to the natural environments of the planet. At the very top, a panoramic terrace offers views of Doss Trento and Monte Bondone that are worth the visit alone.
The children’s section, spread across multiple levels, is thoughtfully designed: spaces where children can touch, experiment and build. It is not a separate, peripheral area but an integral part of the museum experience.
Practical information
The museum is open every day except Monday (in high season it also opens on Mondays). Opening hours are generally 10:00 to 18:00, with the ticket office closing earlier. Ticket prices vary for adults, children and families — check the official website for current rates.
From Hotel Accademia it can be reached on foot in about fifteen minutes along the Adige riverbank, or by urban bus. The museum shop is well stocked with science books, educational games and children’s gadgets — a fine alternative souvenir.
