Trento in summer: what to do when the days are long

Trento in summer what to do

Your guide to Trento in summer what to do from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.

Summer in Trento is long and pleasant. From June to September the days are sunny, city temperatures hover between 25°C and 32°C, and the choice of things to do — in and out of the city — is at its widest.

July and August are peak months. The historic centre fills with Italian and international visitors, restaurants are in full swing and evenings on Piazza del Duomo go on late. The Feste Vigiliane, in late June, ideally mark the opening of the Trentino summer.

Escaping the heat

For those wanting to avoid the hottest hours, options abound. The cable car to Sardagna rises in a few minutes from 400 to nearly 800 metres above sea level: at the top, the village of Sardagna is surrounded by meadows and the heat eases immediately. The lakes — Caldonazzo, Levico, Lamar — are the natural destination for a hot day. Caldonazzo is the most frequented and best equipped; Lamar the wildest and coolest.

Evening life

In the evenings, Trento is a lively city. Squares are animated, bars stay open late, and temporary events — outdoor concerts, film screenings, local festivals — enrich every weekend. For guests at Hotel Accademia, the central location means the main evening spots are all within walking distance.

August

Ferragosto (mid-August) closes some shops and creates a brief lull, but restaurants and main attractions remain open. For those who prefer a less hectic atmosphere, the week of Ferragosto is actually a good time to visit Trento.

What to pack

Light summer clothes are essential, but a fleece or light jacket is useful for mountain excursions and cooler September evenings.
