Day trips train from Trento
Your guide to day trips train from Trento from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.
Trento is an excellent base for train excursions. Its geographical position — at the crossroads between the Po plain and the Alpine arc — connects it easily to very diverse destinations, some in under an hour.
Bolzano
The most obvious destination: fifty-five minutes by train along the Adige valley, a city that deserves a full day. The medieval historic centre, the Archaeological Museum with Ötzi the Iceman, the arcades of Via dei Portici and the Gothic cathedral. From Bolzano, cable cars also run to the Renon plateau for a walk at altitude.
Rovereto
About twenty minutes south of Trento by train. Home to the MART — Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea — one of Italy’s most important contemporary art museums, with a permanent collection covering Italian Futurism and the 20th century, plus internationally significant temporary exhibitions. The old town is small and pleasant.
Venice
Reachable in two hours and fifteen minutes by direct train. A day trip is feasible — leave early, return in the evening — though a night in Venice remains the best way to enjoy it.
Verona
About an hour by train. Romeo and Juliet’s city is worth half a day for the Arena, Piazza Bra and the historic centre. In summer, opera at the Arena is a rare experience — book tickets on the official website well in advance.
Val di Cembra
The Val di Cembra railway is one of the most scenic lines in northern Italy, climbing from Trento through Müller Thurgau vineyards and timeless rural landscapes. The journey to Cembra and back is a half-day trip that few tourists make and many residents love.
