Trento one day itinerary
Your guide to Trento one day itinerary from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.
A full day in Trento can be lived well without excessive planning. Here is an hour-by-hour itinerary that works both for first-time visitors and for those wanting to make the most of a single day.
8:30 — Breakfast in the centre
Start with a coffee and a brioche at one of the bars on Via Belenzani or Piazza del Municipio. Bar breakfast is the Trento resident’s daily ritual: quick and of quality.
9:00 — Piazza del Duomo
Before the centre fills up, the square deserves a quiet crossing. Enter the Cathedral of San Vigilio: the Romanesque façade and the early Christian remains of the original basilica set the historical scale of the city. Stop at the Neptune fountain.
10:00 — Via Belenzani and the historic centre
Walk up Via Belenzani, the street of frescoed palaces. Turn into the side streets — Via San Pietro, Via Santa Trinità — to see the less touristed medieval Trento.
11:30 — Castello del Buonconsiglio
Allow about two hours for the castle. Buy the ticket at the entrance and follow the museum route to the Magno Palazzo. The loggia with Romanino’s frescoes is the high point of the visit.
13:30 — Lunch
Return to the centre and lunch at one of the old-town trattorias. Canederli in broth or dry are the dish to order at least once.
15:00 — Quartiere delle Albere and MUSE
Cycle or walk along the riverbank to the Quartiere delle Albere. With children, the MUSE is worth the remaining afternoon hours. Without children, the neighbourhood and park are still pleasant.
18:00 — Aperitivo
Return to the historic centre for an aperitivo at a Piazza del Duomo bar or at the wine bars on Via Suffragio.
20:00 — Dinner
Book in advance at one of the centre restaurants. End the day on foot through the illuminated streets of the historic centre.
