Lakes Trentino near Trento
Your guide to lakes Trentino near Trento from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.
Trentino is dotted with mountain lakes, and some of the most beautiful lie less than an hour from Trento. They are not the Riviera, but in summer they offer something different — and in many ways more authentic: clear water, Alpine scenery and quieter shores.
Lake Caldonazzo
The largest lake in Trentino and also the warmest in summer, with temperatures reaching 26–27°C in August. It lies about twenty-five kilometres from Trento in the Valsugana valley. The shores are equipped with beach clubs, canoe and pedalo hire, and beach volleyball courts. The lakeside promenade at Calceranica is pleasant by bike. In summer the lake is busy at weekends, so for a quieter visit arrive in the morning or on weekdays.
Lake Levico
A few kilometres from Caldonazzo, smaller and quieter. The town of Levico Terme has a graceful 19th-century spa atmosphere, with liberty-style villas and a large wooded park. The lake suits those looking for a relaxing walk rather than a full beach day.
Lake Lamar
The choice for lovers of unspoilt nature. Set on the Garniga plateau above Trento at around 800 metres altitude, there are no beach clubs or facilities — just a lake ringed by meadows and firs, with cold, crystal-clear water. Reachable by car in about twenty minutes from central Trento, it opens onto a network of hiking trails.
Getting there
For Caldonazzo and Levico, the best option is the train on the Trento–Bassano line, stopping directly at both. Bikes can be brought on board. For Lake Lamar, a car is needed. The lakes are pleasant from June to September; Lake Lamar is also beautiful in late spring.
