Trento gluten-free restaurants
Your guide to Trento gluten-free restaurants from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.
Travelling with a gluten intolerance or coeliac disease can be demanding when eating out. Trento is not a large city, but it has developed a fairly solid offer for those seeking gluten-free options — both in restaurants and in shops.
How to find your way
The Celiachia Club Trentino maintains an updated list of AIC-certified (Italian Coeliac Association) venues in the province. Before going out, it is worth checking the AIC website or official app, which geolocates restaurants with a guaranteed gluten-free menu.
Reliable restaurants
Ristorante Al Vo’ offers a menu with clearly marked gluten-free dishes and the kitchen follows protocols to avoid cross-contamination. It is worth calling ahead to flag your requirements.
Pizzeria Lievito makes gluten-free pizza with a separate dough. The quality of the base is good compared with many industrial alternatives.
For self-catering
Naturasì — the organic supermarket on Via San Francesco d’Assisi — has a well-stocked gluten-free section: bread, pasta, pastries and baked goods. Useful for those wanting to prepare breakfast in the room or a snack for an excursion.
At the Saturday farmers’ market in Via Belenzani, local producers sell polenta flour, ancient grains and other naturally gluten-free products. Storo polenta flour and local buckwheat flour are interesting purchases for those who cook.
Important note
In many traditional restaurants, canederli — the signature dish of Trentino cuisine — contain bread and therefore gluten. Some venues prepare gluten-free versions on request, but this is not guaranteed. Always call before booking. Hotel Accademia staff are available to recommend suitable restaurants and advise on gluten-free breakfast options at the hotel.
