Wine bars Trento
Your guide to wine bars Trento from Trento: everything you need to know to plan your visit from Hotel Accademia in the historic centre.
Trentino is wine country. The variety of the landscape — from the vineyards of the Adige valley to the Garda olive groves, from the Cembra hills to the terraced Noce valleys — produces very different wines. Trento has several wine bars where you can discover them without needing to organise winery tours.
Enoteca Sociale
On Piazza del Municipio, this is the essential starting point. Run by a consortium of Trentino producers, it offers the full range of local wines by the glass or bottle. Staff know the producers and can advise on pairings and backstories. Prices are reasonable, the selection is the most complete in the city.
La Cantina di Via Suffragio
The most carefully curated wine bar in the centre. Small, with around two hundred labels, it favours artisan and organic Trentino producers. The boards of local cheeses and cured meats accompanying the wine are of good quality. Excellent for an unhurried tasting.
The wines not to miss
Trentodoc is Trentino’s traditional-method sparkling wine, aged on the lees. Teroldego Rotaliano is the indigenous red of the Rotaliana plain north of Trento: full-bodied, with notes of berries and spice. Nosiola is Trentino’s indigenous white — fresh and lightly aromatic, rare outside the region. Marzemino is the wine cited in Mozart’s Don Giovanni: light, fruity, excellent for aperitivos.
Tip
If you have time for only one tasting, choose a Trentodoc and a Teroldego — they represent the two most distinct personalities of local production. Ask the wine bar staff for advice on vintages and producers: the level of knowledge in Trento’s specialist venues is generally high.
